Sgt. Ray DeCunto began his career with the Madeira Beach, Florida Police Department in 1981, moving to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office in 1985. As a deputy, Ray’s assignments included patrol, field training, traffic enforcement, the training division and narcotics. He was assigned to the S.W.A.T. team for 13 years. The last nine years of his career were as a sergeant within the Narcotics Division where he supervised covert & overt drug operations as well as coordinating tactical training as it relates to undercover investigations, the execution of search warrants, agent rescues and buy-bust operations. He retired in 2009.
Sgt. DeCunto holds a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree through Tampa College, Florida. He has focused on officer survival training since 1991 both in classroom and practical scenario based training. Ray has been involved in the development and instruction of courses that include basic and advanced tactical patrol, tactical drug operations, tactical maritime activities and SWAT operations. From 1992 to 2009 Ray was an instructor with the Multi-jurisdictional Counter Drug Task Force Training Program funded by the National Guard.
Ray has been a Street Survival Seminar instructor for Calibre Press since 2003. In 2010 Ray established RAD Training Inc. www.radtraininginc.com in order to expand training to specific areas in law enforcement and the private sector. In addition to courses for public and private officers, Ray has added tactical survival courses for law enforcement patrol deputies/officers, court assigned deputies/officers, parole and probation officers and narcotics detectives.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities Ray is still a fully certified law enforcement officer and serves as a reserve deputy with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Tampa Florida.
