VIDEO: Officer Shot Serving Bench Warrant

April 2, 2015

A West Columbia (S.C.) police officer is in stable condition after being shot in the head while serving a bench warrant Tuesday.

West Columbia Police Chief Dennis Tyndall said the officer and two others were serving a warrant on 51-year-old William Kernan around 1:45 p.m.

“When they were there, talking to him, trying to get him to surrender himself, he put his head inside the window, fired a shot that went through a wall, and struck the officer in the head,” Tyndall said.  Shortly after the shooting, Kernan surrendered to police.
