VIDEO: Dashcam of Fatal OIS Released

June 9, 2015

Dashcam video of a fatal officer-involved shooting in March has been released, showing Oklahoma Highway Patrolmen shoot and kill 34-year-old Tyrel Vick.

He was suspected of killing his brother, Naman Vick earlier in the day on March 20th.

Officers spotted Tyrel driving his dead brothers truck. After 30 minutes of trying to pull him over, a trooper rams the truck. Vick eventually fires several rounds through the window at the pursuing officer.

“We try to prepare our troopers with training, but nothing is like reality,” said Captain Paul Timmons, a spokesman for the Oklahoma Department of Public Safety.

He was fatally wounded when officers thought he may be reaching for a gun inside the cab. The Coal County District Attorney decided the officers were justified to shoot.
