DASHCAM: Fatal Kansas City OIS Released

December 30, 2015

Dashcam video from two police vehicles show the scene on May 26, 2012, when officers shot and killed 22-year-old Raymond A. Smith behind a funeral home at Independence Boulevard and Brooklyn Avenue. Officer Selvir Abidovic pursued Smith on foot after he ran from police. Radio traffic recorded officers warning that Smith had a gun. As Smith rounded the corner of the building he jumped a fence. Police say he shot at Abidovic before the officer returned fire. The second video shows another police car arriving soon afterward on the other side of the building with officers Christopher Krueger and Christopher Taylor. Smith was shot several times. A lawsuit against the officers and the police board, implying police planted a gun by Smith’s body, is pending in federal court.
