Clinton, Miss., police have released dashcam video from a Monday night chase in which a shoplifting suspect crashed into a car, killing the driver.
The chase began about 11:40 p.m. with a shoplifting call reported at the Walmart in Clinton, police said. A computer and electronic equipment had been reported stolen, Clinton Interim Police Chief Mike Gill said. The tag on the vehicle had been switched and officers are trying to determine if the car had been stolen, authorities said.
“The stolen computer equipment was a felony. They left the scene, that’s a felony,” Clinton Mayor Phil Fisher said. “They went on a rounding-type path from Highway 80 to get onto Capitol Street (in Jackson). They were actually heading back to Clinton. The Jackson Police Department was notified and they were actually blocking streets. The car veered into the eastbound lane and hit the other car for no apparent reason. There was no traffic on the road.”
