BODYCAM: Woman with Meat Cleaver Fatally Shot

May 13, 2016

Video of a police officer fatally shooting a North Carolina woman who was holding a meat cleaver was released by Greensboro police Wednesday.

Chieu Di Thi Vo, 47, “ran towards” Officer Timothy (TJ) Bloch on March 25, 2014 at the Aberdeen Townhomes, according to the Greensboro Police Department. State and local investigators concluded the former cop used justified and reasonable force.

Yet Vo’s family, who viewed the newly-released footage for the first time earlier this month, said the video showed she never attacked him with the knife, an attorney for the family, Tin Thanh Nguyen, told the Daily News.

“We needed to see what happened,” Nguyen said. “It wasn’t until after we saw the video that it was like, ‘Wow, she didn’t have to die.”
