BODYCAM: Officers Save Man from Jumping Off Bridge

July 6, 2017

KCRA.com:

Grass Valley, Calif., police officers saved a man from jumping off a highway overpass.

Officers were called to the Empire Street overpass along Highway 49 on Tuesday afternoon to talk to a man who was considering jumping.

Officer Jesse Cloyd, a 5-year veteran with the department, was wearing a body camera during the incident. In the video, he tries to talk the man away from the fenced overpass.

“His actions were changing slightly, elevating a little bit,” Cloyd explained. “He was getting closer to the rail.”

After a short conversation with officers, the man scaled the overpass fence in an attempt to jump. Cloyd and his partner, Officer Mel Bird, then grabbed onto the suicidal man — determined to pull him to safety.
